Narratives Privacy Policy
Effective date: July 19, 2026
Narratives is designed as a local-first personal AI assistant. This policy explains what information the app processes, where it is stored, and when optional features may communicate with external services.
Information processed on your device
Depending on the features you use, Narratives may process and store:
- text conversations and AI responses;
- voice recordings and transcriptions;
- photos or images you attach or capture;
- conversation summaries, topics, and daily overview cards;
- facts and preferences you choose to keep in saved memory;
- schedules, reminders, check-ins, and notification preferences;
- app settings, locally generated diagnostics, and exported backups.
This information is stored in the app’s local container on your device. The language model used for conversational processing runs on your device. Narratives does not upload your conversation history to a developer-operated AI server.
Optional network features
Some features require a network connection. When you explicitly use an online tool, or enable a scheduled event that uses one, Narratives may send only the information needed to complete that request to the relevant service. Examples include:
- a location or place name to Apple WeatherKit or Open-Meteo for weather information;
- a search term to DuckDuckGo for web search;
- a search term to Wikimedia services for Wikipedia or other reference information;
- a requested webpage address to that website when you ask Narratives to read it;
- requests needed to download the on-device model and app assets from Apple.
These requests may also expose standard network information, such as an IP address, to the service receiving the request. External services may retain request information according to their own terms and privacy policies. Narratives does not operate a proxy for these requests, receive a copy of them, use them to sell personal data, or build advertising profiles.
Device permissions
Narratives may request permission to access:
- Microphone — to record voice messages;
- Camera — to capture a photo for a conversation;
- Photos — to save a captured photo when you request it;
- Location — to provide local weather when requested;
- Notifications — to deliver reminders, scheduled events, and optional check-ins.
You can change these permissions at any time in iOS Settings.
Tracking, advertising, and analytics
Narratives does not include advertising, cross-app tracking, or third-party analytics SDKs. The developer does not sell personal information collected through the app.
Your controls
Narratives provides controls to review and clear saved memory, export or import a backup, and manage app features. Exported backups may contain personal information and should be stored securely. You can remove local app data by using available deletion controls or by deleting the app. Copies you exported or saved to Photos remain under your control outside the app.
Data retention
Local data remains on your device until you delete it, clear it through the app, restore or replace it through an import, or remove the app. Narratives does not maintain a developer-operated account containing your conversation history.
Children’s privacy
Narratives is not designed to collect personal information from children through a developer-operated service. Because the app can process free-form user input, parents or guardians should supervise its use where appropriate.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated as Narratives changes. The effective date at the top of this page will identify the latest revision.
